Once someone starts a fitness journey, whether it is for the purpose of leading a healthier life or rocking a toned body, going to the gym and doing the same thing over and over again kind of gets old, and risks the person to lose interest. So when I was trying to spice things up in my gym life, I came across L’Atelier Aquafitness, a high-end Aquafitness boutique (the only one in Dubai as a matter of fact) offering Aquabiking classes, a concept I was new to (and was apparently super late to discover). Aquabiking, which is a concept that originated in Italy in the 90’s, is a mix of water aerobics and indoor spinning in a pool.
As I looked for L’Atelier on Al Wasl Road, I had to go around a couple of times as parking was an issue, for they have a minimal number of parking spots. Thankfully, I managed to make it in a bit before class, and was shown around to the lockers, dressers, and showers before changing and heading into class.
For first timers, the special spinning shoes are provided, however, they are required to be purchased for any following classes.
I walked into the class on time to meet our french instructor, although the class has only 10 bikes, half of them were already occupied by other keen students who were already setting up their bikes, while the instructor helped me with mine.
The session was 45 minutes long, leaving us exhausted and already feeling the muscle soreness, as the water offers 12 times more resistance than air.
After showering and changing I made my way to the lounging area where I found a tea and juice bar set up for customers to enjoy a post or pre-class refreshment session.
I’d definitely recommend visiting L’Atelier Aquafitness for a refreshing and new concept, and for a fun method to staying fit.
